Some of the members on here may have already seen these videos, or have knowledge of these processes or maybe even work with this equipment - but for the rest of us mere mortals - HOLY CRAP - be ready to be amazed.
"Now you know that you really truly live in the 21st Century."

Once you watch these videos - just imagine the endless possibilities an F1 Engineer could be facing.

Hope you enjoy these!

Those 3D printers are very cool! With an F1 slant to your topic, the F1 teams use selective laser scintillation, &/or stereolithography as the 2 technologies to rapid prototype special components.

Basically the same as the 3D printer, but they've also gone so far as to use powdered titanium that cures in the form they want. The hydraulic manifold is pretty piece of engineering that is manufactured this way. There's just no other way they could fabricate it, given it's complexity. Plus, it's fast (hence the 'rapid' part of it's name)

It really is amazing stuff.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGIfhZZZk-g a 9 min interview with LRGP and 3D Systems that says what I tried to say above.

I was fortunate enough to see some of this stuff during my tour of Enstone. No actual RP'ing, but some of the components that were made from it. I believe some of the 2011 exhaust components were done with SLS, due to the internal vanes that couldn't be manufactured in the traditional way.
