Another unfortunate loss, in truly unusual circumstances. I have read the reports but have no interest in watching the video which no doubt is gruesome.
Some (no one here) will attempt to re-ignite the debate about "banning" motorsports but this does not qualify as a "black week", at least not from a historical perspective.
Has everyone forgotten Imola? Two deaths, in two days. And a 3rd horrific accident.
It really is odd how we can go for years without any deaths and then we get a couple in quick succession.
Sad.

I happened to see it this morning on the news before reading it here.
It almost looked as if something more significant happened before he verred across the track and collided with the other 2 bikes. The impact with the other 2 riders did not look all that bad, and when Simoncelli came into view, his helmet was already gone. I'm sure and inquiry will shed more light on yet another unfortunate motorsports death.
Like you Martin, I'm sure the calls will come to cut motorsports as a dangerous and unneccessary entertainment.....
RIP Marco

AP News ~
"Italian rider Marco Simoncelli died Sunday after crashing and being hit by two other riders at the Malaysian MotoGP motorcycle race. He was 24."
"After the crash, Simoncelli was taken to the medical center at the Sepang circuit where he died of chest, head and neck injuries, organizers said."
“He was already unconscious when the medical team arrived,” MotoGP medical director Michele Macchiagodena said. “We attempted to resuscitate him but failed. He died 45 minutes later.”
"Simoncelli lost control of his Honda at turn 11 four minutes into the race, but his bike regained partial grip and swerved across the track and into the path of American Colin Edwards and Italian Valentino Rossi."

Was Rossi one of the rider that hit him? he must be a mess...
Shocking.
Rossi was involved (not to say he was in any way responsible) . It appeared from the video that it was his bike that hit Marco's head/helmet milliseconds after Colin Edwards' bike was unable to avoid him.
Very sad and dark end to an already sickening week. :(
I only heard of this horrible accident when my girlfriend was on Facebook posting on memorials for Dan Wheldon and asked me who Simoncelli was. :(
Rest in Peace young Racer.

I could have done without seeing it what a shame. I'm really getting sick of the mainstream media with the recent accidents and their "expertise" at being the world's greatest Monday-morning quarterbacks
I had the vid emailed to me not knowing what it was i was about to watch..
Terrible week for sure..
Godspeed Marco.
