Ireland managed to beat the US in their first match, even if they did look a tad nervous in doing so.

Hopefully the Canadian squad will not embarrass themselves, as they regularly do in the Hong Kong 7's.

Actually, Canada beating Tonga is not as much of a shock as some think.

We have beaten them 3 times on the trot now. So the result does not surprise me. It pleases me and it likely represents the only points we will get from this WC but it was a nice way to start the morning.

A much bigger test comes on Sunday when we face the French. I am not expecting to get much from that match. We then face Japan on the 27th and the All Blacks on October 1st. As I said above, today might be our only points. We might squeak out a win against the Japanese, but only if we are disciplined throughout the entire match.

Ireland on the otherhand face the Wallabies on Saturday (no points there), Russia on the 25th (should win that one), and then Italy on October 2nd (that one is winnable). So, the outlook for the Irish is better.

But the timezone difference is killing me. :eek:

Geez, it was on live at 9pm out here Clarkie! Thought you'd grab a hot toddie and watch it live..... I actually sat and watched it (haven't touched one of those balls in some 30 years!) and Canada played solid for most of the game and made the most of the chances they got. Served the Tongan's right for thinking they could sit 11 regulars and then go out and beat us. :cool: :D
