Canadian acting legend Dan Aykroyd has been named as grand marshal of Canada's biggest sports car racing event, the American Le Mans Series' Mobil 1 presents The Grand Prix of Mosport, August 21-24.

Aykroyd, who gained fame as a writer and cast member of the late night comedy show Saturday Night Live and box office hits like The Blues Brothers and Ghostbusters, will bring the 31-car American Le Mans Series field to life when he gives the command to the drivers to start their engines.

"I have a real passion for cars and motorcycles and I especially love the roar of their engines, so it's going to be a special treat to see and hear those exotic race cars fire up their high-performance motors when I say those four famous words, " said Aykroyd, a Harley-Davidson enthusiast.

As the Canadian rights holder of Patrón Tequila (distributed in Canada by Diamond Estates Wines and Spirits), Aykroyd will have a rooting interest in the two-hour, 45-minute race on August 24 as the US-based ultra-premium spirits company sponsors the Patrón Highcroft Racing Acura team and drivers David Brabham and Scott Sharp.

Celebrating its 10th season of competition, the American Le Mans Series features internationally renowned teams, drivers and manufacturers competing in four distinct classes of competition within one race. Many of the world's top marques are involved with the Series, including Acura, Aston Martin, Audi, Corvette, Dodge, Ferrari, Ford, Mazda, Panoz and Porsche.

The Mobil 1 presents the Grand Prix of Mosport is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. ET on Sunday, August 24 from Mosport International Raceway just outside of Toronto. The eighth round of the 2008 American Le Mans Series race will be aired live on SPEED. XM Satellite Radio will air the race live on XM Channel 166. Live radio coverage also will be available from American Le Mans Radio at americanlemans.com, which also will feature IMSA's Live Timing & Scoring.

Great to see!
