GOLD COAST, Australia -- Jacques Villeneuve of Iberville, Que., and co-driver Paul Dumbrell finished fifth at the Gold Coast 600 race on Sunday.

The pair were unable to keep pace with reigning champion Jamie Whincup and co-driver Steve Owen, who took the checkered flag.

It was the second 300-kilometre race of the weekend. Each team was required to have an international co-driver that drove at least 100 kilometres in each race.

Alex Tagliani of Lachenaie, Que., and partner Jason Bargwanna finished 20th on Sunday.

these were 2 great races. if you missed them, you need to watch the links provided.

the international drivers were a joke. not that I don;t think they have the ability, but they don't know the cars, and the rules were stacked against them- each team only had to have an "international driver" in one car. that means the other car- the better car in each team- has a second driver who is far, far more experienced in those cars.

anyway, the results were what they were. the guys like villeneuve drove 1/3 of the race, then the regulars took over. they caused a lot of carnage, in both races, then the regular guys jumped in and the races were great. it was entertaining as hell, so I have no complaints
