View Full Version : US mens Olympic basketball...
I'm disgusted with the way the US men's basketball team played against the host Chinese team. Their "showboating" was arrogant, disrespectful and unsportsman like. The Olympics should be reserved for amateurs and not millionaire primadonna athletes. Don't take this as an anti-American thing as the Winter Olympics have a similar problem with hockey.

agree, but the canadian hockey team, has atleast better opposition & are way more respectful, than that basketball team will ever be. very much doubt they are staying in the village.

i am totally not interested in any aspect of the summer games, could really care less who wins what and how many records or medals are won. the games like most sports are not about the sport but are about money and power.

I worked for Mazda many years ago and had a chance to speak with an amateur sprinter who was competing for Canada. Found out then that athletes were funded through "expenses"...this particular athlete was making over $100k a year, plus the monies paid for promotional events (like Mazda)....sad part is, they were already professionals before then, it was only recently that the highly-paid professionals (hockey, basketball, etc) were included (much to the true disappointment of the real 'amateur' athlete who trained hard to participate).
Haven't personally watched in many years, have no interest, don't frankly give a damn, even with the Games here in 2010.
PS. the amateur Mazda athlete was the disgraced 100-yard gold medallist (for a couple of days anyway) back in 1988...I can only guess what the $$ was for...

Yeah I agree, but let's remember that "pros" were allowed as a result of the Soviet Union as they had professionals. Guys like Krutov, Larinov and Makarov were apparently amatures.
Too bad that the Soviets ruined amature sports.

Don't blame them, blame the IOC for allowing it to happen.

These summer games have been a yawn..... Not impressed at all. Canada better pick it up soon. Although maybe once the track events start things will be more interesting. Looking forward to the Winter Games though. At least we'll get to watch some hockey :)

well do well in the rowing, kayak etc. well do well in 2010, which is what they have put most of the $ into. we need some new summer facilities built. overall when you combine winter & summer together we are quite good. need a few more phelps though.
