I own a 2000 Toyota Celica GTS, which I only drive in the summer months of the year. Recently I put a set of Toyo tires on it which I am most pleased with. They are the best tires I have ever driven on, bar none!
In the search for other simple upgrades, I decided to go full synthetic in regards to engine performance. The other day I had my dealer change the oil to Pennzoil platinum 5w-30. I paid $40.00 CDN for the oil at Canadian Tire.
Many of you probably use synthetics already, but with todays high performance engines that generate substantial heat that can rapidly deteriorate conventional lubricants, this is the way to go!
The first observation I had is that the engine runs considerably quieter and more smoother, at idle and when shifting and at highway speeds. I also noted that the car takes longer to reach op temps, due, I think to reduced friction overall. Gas mileage has improved also!
Conventional oil chage is at 5,000 kms and synthetic at 8,000 kms, so the cost factor is marginalized by extended change patterns.
I guess that there are other brands out there, notably Mobil 1 which is priced the same but Pennzoil is rated the best. Let us boardies know if you have tried synthetics and your experience.
